It accepts both T568A and T568B wiring configurations, making it compatible with a wide range of cabling layouts without requiring specialized tooling for each port type. Installed at the patch panel position in a standard equipment rack or wall-mount enclosure, it serves as the termination and cross-connect point between horizontal cable runs and active networking equipment. Licensed low-voltage contractors and network infrastructure technicians are the primary installers of this panel.
The HP5E48A is suited for data closets, telecommunications rooms, and structured wiring enclosures in office buildings, schools, and multi-unit residential deployments. Its 48-port density allows consolidation of a full floor or zone of horizontal Cat5e runs into a single rack unit or compact mounting footprint. It is used wherever Cat5e performance up to 100 MHz is required for Ethernet, VoIP, and similar low-voltage data applications.

Installation should be performed by a licensed low-voltage contractor or qualified network cabling technician in accordance with applicable TIA-568 structured cabling standards. De-energize any active equipment in the rack before terminating or re-patching cables at the panel. A 110-style punchdown tool is typically required to seat conductors at each port. Avoid over-bending cable runs behind the panel, as maintaining proper bend radius protects Cat5e signal integrity.
