The HOUGEN 17134 is a cobalt annular cutter designed for clean, fast hole-cutting in ferrous metals. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers the heat and wear resistance needed for interrupted cuts in mild steel, stainless steel, and structural steel plate. The cutter measures 1-1/16 inches in diameter with a 3/4 inch depth of cut and uses a 5/8 inch Rotaloc twist-style shank for secure, tool-free mounting in compatible magnetic drill presses and arbors. At 0.17 pounds, it is lightweight enough for overhead and vertical drilling applications common in structural and fabrication work. Installers in steel fabrication, ironwork, electrical, and mechanical trades rely on this type of cutter for producing precise holes without center-drilling or step-drilling.
This annular cutter is suited for use in stationary and portable magnetic drill press setups found in structural steel fabrication, HVAC ductwork framing, electrical panel installations, and mechanical equipment mounting. The 3/4 inch depth of cut accommodates standard material thicknesses encountered in light structural and sheet-metal applications. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for general-purpose cutting in steel and stainless steel where specialized coatings are not required. Fabricators and ironworkers use this cutter when consistent hole diameter and clean entry and exit are priorities.
Designed for use with magnetic drill presses and arbors that accept a 5/8 inch Rotaloc twist-style bayonet shank. Rated for cutting mild steel, stainless steel, and steel.
Installation and use of annular cutters should be performed by qualified machinists, fabricators, or trade professionals familiar with magnetic drill press operation. Always secure the magnetic drill base fully to the workpiece and confirm the cutter is locked in the arbor before starting. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to manage heat buildup and extend cutter life. Inspect the cutter for chipped teeth or wear before each use, and never exceed the rated depth of cut for the tool.
