The HOUGEN 12724 is a high speed steel annular cutter designed for cutting clean, precise holes in metal workpieces. It features a 3/4-inch cutting diameter and a 2-inch depth of cut, making it suitable for through-hole and deep-hole applications in fabrication and structural work. The cutter carries a titanium nitride (TiN) finish that reduces friction and extends tool life compared to uncoated HSS. The 3/4-inch Weldon flat shank with two flats provides a secure, positive drive connection in compatible magnetic drill presses and drill stands. This cutter is installed and operated by metal fabricators, ironworkers, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians.
This annular cutter is intended for use in magnetic drill presses, drill stands, and other machines equipped with a Weldon-style chuck accepting a 3/4-inch shank. It is well-suited for on-site structural steel work, plate fabrication, and shop applications where slug-ejecting hole cutting is preferred over twist drilling. Rated material applications include mild steel, stainless steel, and general steel stock. The M2 high speed steel grade maintains cutting edge hardness under the heat generated during ferrous metal cutting.
Designed for use with magnetic drill presses and drill stands fitted with a Weldon-style chuck accepting a 3/4-inch shank diameter. Compatible material applications include mild steel, stainless steel, and steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified metalworking or trade professionals familiar with magnetic drill press equipment. Ensure the drill press is powered down and the magnetic base is disengaged before inserting or removing the cutter from the chuck. Secure the Weldon flat shank fully into the chuck and tighten the set screws against both flats before use. Use the appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for the material being cut to maximize cutter life and hole quality.
