The HOUGEN 12276 is a high speed steel annular cutter designed for fast, clean through-holes in steel plate and structural steel. With a 2-3/8 inch cutting diameter and a 2 inch depth of cut, this cutter removes only a thin core of material rather than turning the full hole to chips, which reduces heat buildup and extends tool life. The 3/4 inch Weldon flat shank with two flats locks securely into compatible magnetic drill press chucks and arbors. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for general-purpose HSS cutters used in fabrication and ironwork applications. Installation and operation require a magnetic drill press or compatible benchtop drill press with a Weldon-style chuck.
This annular cutter is suited for metalworking tradespeople including ironworkers, structural steel fabricators, pipe fitters, and millwrights. It is used when drilling large-diameter holes in mild steel and steel plate where a twist drill or hole saw would be slow or impractical. Typical applications include structural connections, beam web penetrations, and plate fabrication where hole roundness and edge quality matter. The 2 inch depth of cut accommodates standard plate and light structural members in one pass.
Designed for use with magnetic drill presses and drill press arbors accepting a 3/4 inch Weldon flat shank. Material application is rated for mild steel and steel. Specific machine model compatibility should be verified against chuck and arbor specifications before installation.
Installation of annular cutters should be performed by qualified metalworking tradespeople familiar with magnetic drill press operation. Disengage and lock out power to the drill press before inserting or removing the cutter. Ensure the Weldon flat shank is fully seated and the set screws in the arbor are tightened against both flats before operation. Use a suitable cutting fluid or lubricant during drilling to manage heat and extend cutter life.
