The HOUGEN 11218 is a high speed steel annular cutter designed for cutting clean, accurate holes in metal without the material waste of a twist drill. It uses a hollow cutting geometry that removes only a thin ring of material, leaving a core plug behind. The cutter measures 0.7087 inches in diameter with a 1/4-inch depth of cut and a 3/8-inch shank diameter. It is supplied in a bright, uncoated finish, which is the standard M2 high speed steel surface without any additional coating. Machinists, ironworkers, and fabricators install this cutter in magnetic drill presses and compatible drilling units for hole-making in structural and plate steel applications.
This cutter is suited for drilling in mild steel, stainless steel, and hardened steel. The 0.7087-inch cutting diameter corresponds to 18 mm, making it a common size for bolt holes and conduit penetrations in fabrication and structural steel work. The 3/8-inch shank connects to standard annular cutter arbors used with magnetic base drills and drill press adapters found in both shop and field settings. It is appropriate for light-duty to medium-duty cutting applications where a full-size depth cutter is not required.
Designed for use with magnetic drill presses and drill press arbors that accept a 3/8-inch shank annular cutter. Compatible material applications include mild steel, stainless steel, and hardened steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Annular cutters are installed by machinists and metalworking tradespeople using magnetic base drills or drill press arbors rated for annular cutting. Before installation, confirm the arbor pilot pin is properly seated and the cutter is secured in the shank collet. Always use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve cut quality. Secure the workpiece fully before energizing the magnetic base or starting the drill.
