The HORN LU114124600TN35 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to Series U114 specifications, this left-hand insert features a 0.046 inch cutting width and an overall length of 0.472 inches. The TN35 grade carbide substrate is suited for universal material applications, making it a versatile choice across a broad range of workpiece materials. It is secured using a screw-holding method, providing rigid clamping and repeatable edge indexing. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is engineered for left-hand grooving applications on turning equipment. The U114 series designation indicates compatibility with HORN U114-style toolholders and insert seats designed to accept this geometry. The TN35 grade supports cutting across multiple material categories, including cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, steel, and superalloys, as indicated by material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is used in both light and medium-duty grooving cycles where tight groove width tolerances are required.
Designed for use with HORN U114-series toolholders and insert seats that accept the U114 insert geometry and screw-clamp retention method. Compatible primary workpiece material codes include K, M, N, P, and S.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate HORN torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Never attempt to re-grind or modify solid carbide inserts.
