The HORN LS2740100031TH35 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the S274 series geometry, this left-hand insert features a TH35 grade carbide substrate suited for universal workpiece material applications. The screw-clamping holding method provides secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. With a corner radius of 0.002 inches (0.05 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm, it is sized for fine-feature grooving work requiring tight tolerances. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for use in turning and grooving applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys, as designated by material codes K, M, N, P, and S. The left-hand orientation makes it appropriate for specific toolholder configurations that require left-hand cutting geometry. Typical applications include grooving, parting, and profiling operations where consistent chip control and edge integrity are critical to part quality.
Designed for use with S274 series left-hand grooving toolholders that accept screw-clamped solid carbide inserts. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm seat geometry and clamping screw compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and all spindle motion fully stopped before handling inserts or toolholders. Use the correct clamping screw and torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating, and verify insert orientation matches the required left-hand cutting direction for the programmed operation.
