The HORN 313454500TN35 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in precision milling applications across a wide range of workpiece materials. Carrying the TN35 manufacturer grade, this single-sided, right-hand insert features a TiN coating applied via PVD process, which enhances surface hardness and wear resistance. With a positive rake geometry and three cutting edges, the insert delivers controlled chip formation and extended tool life. It measures 0.28 inches thick with a 0.8540-inch inscribed circle and belongs to the Series 313 product family. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers of this type of insert.
This insert is suited for milling hard materials, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, steel, and superalloys including titanium. The positive rake geometry makes it particularly effective where cutting forces need to be minimized, such as when machining difficult-to-cut materials or thin-walled workpieces. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping in compatible Series 313 toolholders, maintaining insert position under interrupted cuts and high-feed conditions. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes depending on depth of cut and feed rate selection.
Designed for use with HORN Series 313 milling toolholders that accept screw-clamped inserts with an insert size code of 4545 and a right-hand cutting orientation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Consult the toolholder manufacturer documentation for recommended torque values and seating procedures.
