The HONEYWELL DB961 is a single cylinder deadbolt designed for residential door security applications. It features a 1-inch hardened steel throw bolt that provides solid resistance to forced entry. The exterior cylinder accepts a key to retract the bolt, while the interior thumb turn operates the bolt from inside. The latch is adjustable and interchangeable to fit two standard backset depths, making it compatible with most standard door preparations. This deadbolt is supplied in a Satin Chrome finish over a steel construction and is sold individually, making it suitable for single-door installations or mixed-quantity orders.
The DB961 is suited for residential entry doors where a keyed exterior and thumb-turn interior configuration is required. The adjustable latch accommodates 2-3/8-inch or 2-3/4-inch backsets, covering the two most common door prep dimensions found in residential construction. The square face latch plate fits standard door edge preparations. The unit uses the Kwikset keyway, which is widely supported by locksmiths and rekeying kits across the industry. Bulk ordering is available: ordering a case of 24 units includes 4 sets of 6 keyed-alike deadbolts, which is useful for property managers or contractors outfitting multiple units with a common key.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install deadbolt for standard residential doors prepared for single cylinder deadbolt hardware with 2-3/8-inch or 2-3/4-inch backsets and a square face latch cutout.
Installation is typically performed by a locksmith, general contractor, or experienced DIYer using a screwdriver and, if modifying the door prep, a hole saw and chisel. Ensure the door is closed and the existing hardware is fully removed before fitting the new deadbolt. Verify the backset measurement before setting the adjustable latch to avoid misalignment with the strike plate. Do not overtighten mounting screws, as this can bind the bolt mechanism and affect smooth operation.
