The HONEYWELL cg450 is a Cycle Gard low water cut-off (LWCO) control designed for steam boiler applications operating at 120 volts. It provides automatic reset functionality and includes an intermittent level test feature, which periodically verifies that the water sensing probe circuit is functioning correctly. The unit ships with the EL1214 probe. Licensed boiler technicians and heating contractors install this control as a safety device to shut down the burner when water level drops below a safe threshold, protecting the boiler from dry-fire damage.
This LWCO is intended for residential and light commercial steam heating systems where a 120-volt control circuit is present. It is well suited for hot water and steam boiler retrofit or replacement work where the existing low water cut-off has failed or requires upgrading to a unit with automatic reset and level-test capability. The intermittent test cycle reduces the need for manual float testing during routine maintenance visits.
The cg450 directly replaces part numbers 450, OEM170TD, and MM PS-801-1080. It is designed as an OEM-style replacement low water cut-off for 120-volt steam boiler systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed boiler technician or qualified heating contractor in accordance with local codes and ASME boiler and pressure vessel guidelines. Shut off all electrical power to the boiler and allow the system to cool and depressurize before removing the existing LWCO or probe assembly. Verify that the replacement probe EL1214 is fully seated and that all wiring connections are secure before restoring power. Do not bypass or jumper the low water cut-off circuit during testing.
