The HILLMAN FASTENERS 48404 is a No. 10 by 3-inch exterior deck screw engineered for outdoor wood fastening applications. The green ceramic coating provides corrosion resistance rated at 1,500 hours of salt spray testing, making it well suited for pressure-treated lumber and exposed deck structures. The self-drilling cut point eliminates the need for pre-drilling in most softwood decking, and the coarse serrated thread pattern pulls material tight while resisting back-out. The star drive recess transfers torque cleanly and reduces cam-out during installation. This fastener carries a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. Contractors, carpenters, and deck builders are the primary installers.
These screws are designed for exterior wood decking, framing, fencing, and general outdoor construction where corrosion resistance is a requirement. The green ceramic finish is specifically formulated for use with ACQ, CA, and other preservative-treated lumber that can accelerate corrosion on standard fasteners. Each box contains 12 pounds of fasteners. The self-drilling point and serrated thread make these suitable for composite-over-wood substructure applications as well as traditional pressure-treated deck boards.
Designed as an exterior-rated fastener for use with pressure-treated and untreated wood decking, fencing, and framing assemblies where a corrosion-resistant screw is required.
Installation is performed by carpenters, deck contractors, or qualified DIYers using a power drill or impact driver fitted with a star drive bit. Before fastening into existing structures, ensure the substrate is properly supported and free of live electrical or plumbing lines. Follow local building codes and IRC or IBC deck construction requirements for fastener spacing and edge distance. Avoid overdriving, which can compromise the ceramic coating and reduce corrosion resistance at the fastener head.
