The HILLMAN FASTENERS 40878 is a coarse-thread drywall screw designed for fastening gypsum wallboard to wood framing. The No. 8 x 2-1/2 inch shank features a flat bugle head that seats flush without tearing the drywall face paper. A No. 2 Phillips recess accepts a standard dimpler bit for controlled drive depth. Hardened steel construction with a phosphate finish provides corrosion resistance suitable for interior applications. Each box contains 50 screws. These are a standard production fastener used by drywall hangers, carpenters, and general contractors on both residential and light commercial projects.
These screws are suited for single-layer and double-layer drywall applications over wood studs and blocking. The coarse thread is optimized for wood substrate engagement, providing strong pull-through resistance in standard framing lumber. The 2-1/2 inch length is commonly used for hanging 5/8 inch drywall to wood framing or attaching a second layer of board over an existing layer. Sold in a 50-count pack, this quantity is practical for spot repairs, small rooms, or supplemental stock on larger jobs.
Designed as a standard coarse-thread drywall screw for fastening gypsum wallboard panels to wood framing members in residential and light commercial construction.
Installation is performed by carpenters and drywall hangers using a variable-speed screw gun or drill fitted with a dimpler bit to control drive depth. Drive screws until the head is seated just below the drywall surface without breaking through the face paper. Follow local building codes and manufacturer recommendations for screw spacing and fastener pattern requirements.
