The HILLMAN FASTENERS 40874 is a coarse-thread drywall screw designed for fastening drywall panels to wood framing. Each screw measures 1-5/8 inches in length at a No. 6 diameter and features a flat bugle head that countersinks cleanly into drywall board without tearing the paper face. The hardened steel construction with a phosphate finish provides corrosion resistance and thread integrity under load. Drive recess is No. 2 Phillips, compatible with standard drywall screwguns and cordless drills. This pack contains 75 screws, making it suitable for single-room or patch repairs.
These screws are used in residential and light commercial drywall installation where panels are attached to wood studs or blocking. The 1-5/8 inch length is a standard choice for single-layer half-inch or five-eighths-inch drywall applied over wood framing. Typical installers include drywall hangers, finish carpenters, and general contractors. The coarse thread is optimized for wood substrate bite and is not intended for metal stud applications, which require fine-thread drywall screws.
Designed for use with half-inch and five-eighths-inch drywall panels fastened to wood framing. Coarse-thread design is suitable for wood substrate applications only.
Installation is performed by drywall hangers or general carpenters using a drywall screwgun or variable-speed drill with a dimpler attachment. Drive screws until the head is just dimpled below the surface without breaking the paper face. Do not overdrive, as this compromises the holding strength of the fastener in the gypsum core. Follow local building codes and drywall manufacturer spacing requirements for field and edge fastening patterns.
