The HILLMAN FASTENERS 40870 is a coarse-thread drywall screw designed for fastening drywall panels to wood framing. The No. 6 x 1 inch screw features a flat bugle head profile that seats flush with the drywall face without tearing the paper. A No. 2 Phillips recess drives cleanly with a standard bit. Hardened steel construction with a phosphate finish resists corrosion and reduces friction during drive. Sold in a 100-count pack, these screws are a standard trade supply for drywall hangers and general contractors on residential and light commercial work.
This screw is suited for single-layer drywall applications where a 1 inch fastener provides adequate pull-through resistance into wood studs. The coarse thread pattern bites into dimensional lumber and engineered wood framing efficiently, minimizing stripping under screw gun torque. The phosphate coating also improves paint adhesion at the dimple point, a practical advantage in finish work. Packs of 100 are a convenient count for smaller jobs or to supplement bulk supply on active job sites.
Designed as a standard coarse-thread drywall screw for fastening 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch, or 5/8 inch drywall panels to wood stud framing where a 1 inch fastener length is appropriate.
Drywall screws are installed by drywall hangers and finish carpenters using a drywall screw gun or drill driver set to the correct clutch depth. Drive screws to a slight dimple — do not overdrive and break the face paper. Follow local building codes and manufacturer spacing requirements for fastener patterns. Keep screws a minimum of 3/8 inch from board edges to prevent crumbling.
