The HILLMAN FASTENERS 117943 is a ZXL Premium Metal to Wood self-drilling roofing screw designed for fastening steel roofing panels to structural wood substrates. Sized at No. 10 x 1.5 inches, each screw features a thread profile that transitions from fine to coarse, generating superior holding strength in a range of wood substrates. The head and washer assembly uses a molded diecast Zamac 3 zinc-aluminum alloy die-cast head that provides lifetime protection against red rust. A 2.5-mil powder coat with chromate sealer delivers enhanced corrosion resistance over the painted head. Each box includes five screws and a Pro-Stick driver bit. These screws carry a 40-year warranty.
The 117943 is suited for post-frame construction where steel roofing panels attach to wood purlins, and for residential construction applications where metal roofing fastens to plywood or OSB sheathing. The micro bit point is engineered to reduce metal shavings during drilling, which helps prevent shavings from embedding in the EPDM rubber sealing washer and compromising the weathertight seal at each fastener location. Roofing contractors and post-frame builders will find these screws appropriate for both new construction and repair work on metal roof assemblies.
Designed for fastening steel roofing panels to wood purlins in post-frame construction and to plywood or OSB sheathing in residential construction applications.
Installation is performed by roofing contractors and post-frame construction crews using a drill or impact driver with the included Pro-Stick bit. Drive screws to proper seating so the EPDM washer compresses to form a weathertight seal without over-driving, which can damage the washer and compromise weather resistance. Follow the roofing manufacturer panel attachment pattern and local building code fastener spacing requirements. Do not over-torque, as this will distort the sealing washer.
