The HILLMAN FASTENERS 117938 is a ZXL Premium Metal to Wood self-drilling roofing screw in a #10 x 1.5-inch size with a green powder-coated head. Engineered for fastening steel roofing panels to structural framing, this screw features a thread geometry that transitions from fine to coarse, generating strong holding power across varying wood densities. The head and washer are protected by a molded diecast Zamac 3 zinc-aluminum alloy cap backed by a 2.5-mil powder coat with chromate sealer, providing corrosion resistance well beyond standard painted-head screws. A micro drill point minimizes metal shavings that could otherwise embed in the rubber washer and compromise the seal. A Pro-Stick bit is included. Sold as a pack of 5 boxes. Package weight is 4.85 pounds.
These screws are designed for two primary applications: fastening corrugated or standing-seam steel roofing to wood purlins in post-frame and agricultural construction, and fastening steel roofing over plywood or OSB sheathing in residential construction. The green head color is intended to coordinate with common roofing panel finishes. The self-drilling point eliminates the need for a pilot hole in most wood substrates, speeding installation on large-span roofing projects where screw count is high.

Installation is typically performed by roofing contractors or general contractors working on metal-roofed structures. Use a variable-speed screw gun with the included Pro-Stick bit and set the clutch or depth-stop to avoid over-driving, which can distort the rubber washer and reduce the weathertight seal. Drive screws perpendicular to the panel surface to maintain full washer contact. Follow local building codes and roofing manufacturer fastener-pattern requirements for spacing and edge distance.
