The HILLMAN FASTENERS 117909 is a No. 10 x 1-inch self-drilling metal-to-wood roofing screw with an ivy green powder-coat finish, sold in a 5-pack box. It is engineered to fasten steel roofing panels directly to wood purlins or structural sheathing without a pre-drilled pilot hole. The hex washer head (HWH) incorporates a V-neck design that adds mechanical strength and resists head pop-out under load. An EPDM rubber washer is vulcanized to a steel backing washer, creating a weatherproof seal even when the fastener is driven slightly off-angle. The thread profile transitions from fine to coarse to maximize pull-out resistance across varying wood substrates. A micro-bit point sheds metal shavings before they can embed in the rubber washer. A Pro-Stick driver bit is included.
This screw is intended for post-frame construction where corrugated or ribbed steel roofing attaches to wood purlins, as well as residential roof sheathing applications over plywood or OSB. The ivy green finish is matched to common steel roofing panel colors, keeping fastener heads visually consistent with the panel surface. The enhanced corrosion-resistant coating consists of 2.5 mils of powder coat with a chromate sealer, improving service life in exposed outdoor environments. Contractors working on agricultural buildings, pole barns, and residential re-roof projects over wood structure are the primary installers.
Designed for fastening steel roofing panels to wood purlins in post-frame construction and to plywood or OSB sheathing in residential construction.
Installation is performed by roofing contractors or general carpenters using a hex-head driver bit at controlled torque to avoid over-compressing the EPDM washer. Drive the screw perpendicular to the panel surface whenever possible; the vulcanized washer accommodates minor angle variance but excessive angle will reduce seal integrity. Follow the roofing panel manufacturer's fastening pattern and applicable building code requirements for fastener spacing and wind uplift ratings. Do not reuse screws that have been backed out, as the washer seal may be compromised.
