The HILLMAN FASTENERS 117906 is a self-drilling metal-to-wood roofing screw designed to fasten steel roofing panels to wood substrates in both post frame and residential construction. Sized at No. 10 by 1 inch with a polished white finish, these screws feature a hex washer head (HWH) with a V-neck design that adds structural strength and resists head pop-out. The coating system applies 2.5 mils of powder with a chromate sealer, delivering enhanced corrosion resistance beyond standard painted heads. Each screw includes a vulcanized EPDM rubber washer bonded to a steel washer for a reliable weatherproof seal, even when driven at a slight angle. Sold as a box of 5 with a Pro-Stick bit included.
These screws are suited for attaching corrugated or ribbed steel roofing to wood purlins in post frame agricultural or commercial buildings, and to plywood or OSB decking in residential roofing applications. The thread profile transitions from fine to coarse along the shank to maximize holding strength across varying wood densities and substrates. The micro-bit point is engineered to start fast, drive straight, and minimize metal shavings that could otherwise embed in the rubber washer and compromise the seal.
Designed for fastening steel roofing panels to wood purlins in post frame construction and to plywood or OSB decking in residential construction.
Installation is typically performed by roofing contractors or general carpenters using a power drill or impact driver set to a controlled clutch depth to avoid over-driving and compressing the EPDM washer. Power down all adjacent electrical equipment and follow applicable fall-protection requirements before working on any roof surface. Do not over-torque — excessive drive depth will deform the rubber washer and reduce seal effectiveness. Use the included Pro-Stick bit for best alignment and drive consistency.
