The HILLMAN FASTENERS 117903 is a No. 10 x 1 inch self-drilling metal-to-wood roofing screw with an evergreen finish, sold in a 5-pack box. It is designed to fasten steel roofing panels directly to wood substrates without pre-drilling. The hex washer head (HWH) features a V-neck design that adds mechanical strength and reduces the risk of head pop-off under load. A 2.5-mil powder coat with chromate sealer delivers enhanced corrosion resistance beyond standard painted heads. An EPDM rubber washer vulcanized to a steel backer creates a weatherproof seal even when driven off-angle. A pro-stick bit is included in each package.
These screws are intended for post-frame and residential roof construction. Primary applications include attaching corrugated or ribbed steel roofing to wood purlins in post-frame buildings and fastening steel roofing over plywood or OSB roof decks in residential builds. The thread geometry transitions from fine to coarse along the shank, improving pull-out resistance across varying wood densities and substrates. The micro-bit point is engineered to minimize metal shavings that could otherwise embed in the EPDM washer and compromise the seal.
Designed for fastening steel roofing panels to wood purlins in post-frame construction and to plywood or OSB decking in residential roofing applications.
Installation is typically performed by roofing contractors or general construction trades using a hex-drive screw gun or impact driver set to a controlled torque clutch to avoid over-driving the EPDM washer. Do not over-compress the rubber washer, as this will deform the seal and reduce weather resistance. Fasten into dry, structurally sound wood substrate for rated holding strength. Follow applicable building codes and manufacturer panel layout requirements for fastener spacing.
