The HILLMAN 8992 is a pronged tee nut designed to create a flush, threaded insert point in wood, particle board, or composite materials. The part features a long, thin barrel body with a flanged head at one end, forming the characteristic T-profile. Four prongs extend from the flange and anchor the nut in place when driven into a pre-drilled hole. The 5/16 inch, 18 TPI coarse thread pattern accepts standard 5/16-18 fasteners. The zinc-plated steel construction provides corrosion resistance for interior structural and furniture applications. Each pack contains 2 tee nuts.
Pronged tee nuts are used in residential and light commercial wood construction, furniture assembly, and composite panel fabrication. Common applications include cabinetry, flatpack furniture, playground equipment, and speaker cabinet assembly where a removable bolt connection is needed without a visible or protruding nut on the surface face. Licensed carpenters, millworkers, and general contractors install this hardware type as part of standard wood joinery work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard hardware insert for wood, particle board, and composite panel assemblies requiring a 5/16-18 threaded connection point.
Installation is performed by drilling a clearance hole sized to match the barrel diameter of the tee nut, then aligning the prongs over the hole on the appropriate face of the workpiece and driving the flange flush with a hammer or mallet. Power down any associated assembly jigs or pneumatic tools before handling. Always confirm pre-drilled hole diameter matches the barrel size to prevent splitting in composite or particle board materials. Follow applicable local building codes when used in structural or load-bearing assemblies.
