The HILLMAN 42400 is a coarse thread drywall screw designed for fastening drywall panels to wood framing. Measuring 6 x 1 inch, this screw features a Phillips drive head and a black phosphate finish applied over hardened steel construction. The hardened steel is produced through heat treatment, quenching, and reheating, resulting in a fastener that resists wear, corrosion, and abrasion under typical drywall installation conditions. Each box contains 100 screws. This screw is a standard item for drywall hangers, finish carpenters, and general contractors working on residential and light commercial wall assemblies.
This screw is suited for attaching 1/2-inch or 5/8-inch drywall to wood studs and blocking. The coarse thread provides strong bite in wood framing, and the bugle head is designed to countersink cleanly without tearing the drywall face paper. Typical applications include new construction wall and ceiling assemblies where panels are fastened directly to dimensional lumber framing. Sold in a 100-count box, this screw is appropriate for smaller jobs or as a supplemental supply on larger projects.
Designed as a standard coarse thread drywall screw for use with wood stud framing in residential and light commercial drywall installations.
Installation is performed by drywall hangers or general carpenters using a drywall screw gun or variable-speed drill with a dimpler attachment. Drive screws to the correct depth so the head sits just below the drywall surface without breaking the face paper. Follow applicable building codes for fastener spacing, typically governed by local residential or commercial construction standards. Do not overdrive screws, as this weakens the hold and damages the board.
