The HERTEL SZ20018C is a solid carbide abrasive bur with a cone-with-point-end head shape, designed for precision material removal, deburring, and surface finishing in metalworking applications. Built to the SM-1 industry specification, it features a double-cut tooth style that shears material efficiently in both directions, reducing loading and improving cut rate. The 1/4-inch shank fits standard die grinder collets and rotary tool chucks. The uncoated solid carbide head delivers hardness and wear resistance suitable for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as hard plastics and composites. Machinists, tool and die techs, and fabricators reach for this bur when working in tight contours or tapered internal profiles.
The SZ20018C suits applications where a tapered or conical cutting profile is required — such as weld cleanup in V-grooves, deburring cast edges, porting cylinder heads, or chamfering drilled holes. The cone-with-point geometry makes it effective for working into corner radii and angled surfaces that flat-end or ball-shaped burs cannot reach cleanly. It is commonly used in job shops, aerospace fabrication, automotive machining, and general metalworking environments where hand-held pneumatic or electric die grinders are the primary tool.
Designed for use with standard 1/4-inch collet die grinders, rotary tools, and flexible shaft machines. Fits any tool accepting a 1/4-inch straight shank bur per SM-1 specification.
Installation and use should be performed by a machinist or fabricator familiar with rotary cutting tools and die grinder operation. Before mounting the bur, ensure the tool is fully powered off and disconnected from the air supply or electrical source. Insert the shank fully into the collet and tighten securely before operation — a loose shank is a safety hazard at high RPM. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves, and operate within the grinder manufacturer's recommended RPM range for the bur diameter.
