The HERTEL SDD43274711 is a two-step drill bit designed to produce clean, stepped holes in sheet metal, electrical enclosures, and thin-gauge materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it steps from 7/8 inch up to 1-1/8 inch in a single plunge. The round shank with three flats measures 3/8 inch in diameter, seating securely in standard drill chucks without slipping. Each step increment measures 1/8 inch in length. This bit is a common tool for electricians and HVAC technicians drilling knockout holes in panels, boxes, and sheet metal ductwork.
This step drill bit is suited for light industrial and trade applications where two consistent hole sizes are needed without multiple bit changes. Typical use cases include drilling conduit knockouts in electrical panels, enlarging pilot holes in HVAC sheet metal, and producing clean holes in aluminum or mild steel enclosures. Its compact geometry makes it practical in tight spaces where a standard hole saw or chassis punch cannot fit.
Designed as an OEM-style step drill bit for use in standard 3/8 inch or larger keyed and keyless drill chucks compatible with round-with-flats shank geometry.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians, HVAC technicians, or plumbers using a corded or cordless drill rated for the shank diameter. Secure the workpiece before drilling and use cutting fluid when working with harder steel to extend bit life. Always wear appropriate eye protection. Confirm chuck jaw condition before seating the shank to ensure proper grip on the three flats.
