The HERTEL R837533-S is a standard pipe tap designed to cut 3/4-14 NPTF internal pipe threads in metal workpieces. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap produces the tapered, pressure-tight thread form required by the National Pipe Taper Fuel standard. It features 5 flutes for efficient chip evacuation and is classified as a short projection tap, with a projection of 0.565 inches and a thread length of 1.375 inches. The shank diameter measures 0.9063 inches and the square drive size is 0.679 inches. This tap is used by machinists, pipefitters, and plumbing trades when threading ports, fittings, and fluid system components to NPTF specification.
This tap is suited for threading operations in pipe fittings, hydraulic manifolds, pneumatic components, and fluid system housings where an NPTF pressure-tight seal is required. The 3/4-14 thread size is common in industrial plumbing, HVAC refrigerant piping, and compressed air systems. Short projection geometry makes it practical for use in confined bores or on machines with limited spindle clearance. It is appropriate for use in manual tapping and machine tapping applications at controlled speeds consistent with high speed steel tooling.
Designed for use in any manual or machine tapping application requiring a 3/4-14 NPTF internal thread. Compatible with standard tap wrenches and machine holders sized for a 0.9063-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or pipefitter familiar with cutting tool operation and thread standards. Always secure the workpiece firmly and use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Set machine spindle speed consistent with high speed steel tooling recommendations for the workpiece material. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if cutting edges show damage to avoid thread damage or tool breakage.
