The HERTEL R127875C-S is a standard NPT pipe tap ground from high speed steel and finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating. Sized at 1-1/4 inches - 11-1/2 threads per inch to the National Pipe Taper (NPT) standard, it cuts the tapered internal threads required for pressure-tight pipe and fitting connections. The TiCN finish increases surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life in production or field service applications. With a 5-flute geometry and regular hook, it is suited for threading ductile metals including steel pipe fittings, valves, and manifolds encountered in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping work.
This tap is intended for threading NPT connections in trade and light industrial settings. Typical applications include cutting 1-1/4 inch NPT threads in pipe flanges, valve bodies, manifold blocks, and mechanical equipment ports. It is used by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and machinists who require a precisely formed taper thread for leak-free assembly with NPT fittings and pipe. The 4-inch overall length and square drive shank allow use with standard tap wrenches and tapping heads.
Designed for cutting 1-1/4 inch - 11-1/2 NPT internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous metals; suitable for use with standard tap wrenches and tapping equipment that accept a 1.3125-inch shank diameter with a 0.9840-inch square drive.
This tap should be used by qualified tradespeople familiar with threading operations and applicable plumbing or piping codes such as the IPC or IFGC. Always secure the workpiece and use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to prevent galling and premature tool wear. Inspect threads with a calibrated NPT thread gauge after tapping to confirm proper taper and form before assembly. Do not force the tap against hard stops, as high speed steel tooling is susceptible to fracture under torsional overload.
