The HERTEL K027822AS is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting M30 x 3.50 metric coarse internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this tap is intended for threading through and blind holes where full thread depth near the bottom of the bore is required. The bottoming chamfer style leaves only 1 to 2 thread leads at the tip, allowing the thread form to continue nearly to the bottom of a blind hole. With 4 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it suits machine and hand tapping operations in production and maintenance environments. The overall length is 5.4375 inches. This tool is handled by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics.
The K027822AS is applied wherever metric coarse M30 threads must be formed in blind or through holes requiring a 6H class of fit and a D9 thread limit. It is suited to manufacturing, heavy equipment maintenance, and structural fabrication work where M30 fastener threads are common. The straight flute geometry works best in materials that produce short or brittle chips, such as cast iron, bronze, and free-machining steel. It is not designed for coolant-through delivery, so external cutting fluid application is the standard approach for this tool.
Designed as an OEM-style straight flute bottoming tap for use in standard tapping chucks, tap holders, and CNC rigid tapping setups sized for M30 large-diameter tooling with a right-hand thread direction.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or maintenance mechanics using a tapping machine, drill press with tapping attachment, or CNC machining center with rigid tapping capability. Always ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct minor diameter for M30 x 3.50 metric coarse threads before tapping. Apply a suitable cutting fluid generously during the tapping operation, as this tool does not support coolant-through delivery. Back the tap out periodically in hand operations to break chips and prevent tap breakage.
