The HERTEL K027794AS is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting internal Metric Fine threads in a range of metalworking applications. Manufactured from High Speed Steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap is built for production threading and tool room work where precise thread form and consistent performance are required. It features four flutes, an M18 x 1.50 thread size, and a D6 thread limit for controlled tolerance fits. The overall length is 4-1/32 inches and the tap is configured for right-hand thread direction. A bottoming chamfer style allows threading to the bottom of blind holes with minimal clearance.
This tap is suited for threading steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials in machine shop, maintenance, and manufacturing environments. The straight flute geometry makes it appropriate for use in through holes and in materials that produce broken or powdery chips. The M18 x 1.50 Metric Fine designation indicates a finer pitch than standard coarse, making it common in applications requiring greater thread strength or finer adjustment, such as automotive, precision machinery, and hydraulic components. Machinists and toolmakers are the primary installers.
Designed as a general-purpose Metric Fine bottoming tap compatible with standard tap holders and tapping chucks accepting straight shank taps in the M18 size class.
This tap is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals using a tapping machine, drill press with tapping attachment, or CNC machining center with a rigid or floating tap holder. Ensure the pre-drilled hole diameter matches the correct tap drill size for M18 x 1.50 threads before use. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Do not force the tap if resistance increases suddenly, as this may indicate chip packing or misalignment.
