The HERTEL K027782AS25 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting M16x2.00 metric coarse internal threads in blind holes and close-to-bottom applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The four-flute geometry provides good chip support and thread form stability in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With an overall length of 3.813 inches and a thread length of 1.813 inches, this tap is sized for standard M16 threading operations on manual or CNC tapping equipment. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades use this tap where full thread depth to the bottom of a blind bore is required.
This tap is suited for use in production machining, job shop threading, and maintenance-repair-operations (MRO) environments. The bottoming chamfer style allows threads to be cut within 1 to 2 pitches of the bottom of a blind hole, making it the correct choice when thread engagement must begin close to the floor of the bore. It is used in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials where M16x2.00 metric coarse threads are specified. Right-hand thread direction is standard. The D7 thread limit designation indicates the tap is ground to produce threads in the higher tolerance range, supporting applications where some plating or coating of the finished part is anticipated.
Designed for cutting M16x2.00 metric coarse right-hand internal threads in blind hole applications. Compatible with standard tap wrenches, tapping heads, and CNC tapping cycles accepting a 0.480-inch shank diameter with a 0.360-inch square drive.
Threading operations should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the tap is properly aligned to the bore axis before engagement to prevent tap breakage. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material throughout the tapping operation. For blind holes, clear chips frequently to prevent packing at the bottom of the bore, and never force the tap past its thread length capacity.
