The HERTEL K027751AS25 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting M8x1.25 metric coarse internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced cutting friction compared to uncoated taps. The plug chamfer style distributes cutting load across several leading threads, making it well suited for general-purpose tapping in materials such as steel, aluminum, and cast iron. With 2 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, this tap pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, keeping the flutes clear during operation. Thread length is 1.125 inches and the part conforms to a 6H class of fit and D5 thread limit.
This tap is intended for use in machining, fabrication, and maintenance operations where metric coarse threads are required. It is commonly used in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and field maintenance environments. The M8x1.25 size is one of the most frequently encountered metric thread specifications across general mechanical assemblies, machine frames, and equipment repairs. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with metric fastener systems will find this a standard production tool. The spiral point geometry is particularly effective in CNC tapping operations and in machine-fed hand tapping where chip control is a priority.
Designed as a standard spiral point plug tap for through-hole M8x1.25 metric coarse tapping operations in machine or hand tapping setups.
Install and remove taps using proper tap wrenches or machine holders rated for the tap shank size. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before beginning the tapping operation. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life. Do not force a tap if resistance increases unexpectedly, as this may indicate chip packing or misalignment that can cause tap breakage.
