The HERTEL K027719AS25 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting M2.5x0.45 metric coarse internal threads in through-hole applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 2-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, keeping the flutes clear during production tapping operations. It carries a 6H class of fit and a D3 thread limit, producing threads suitable for standard metric fastener assemblies. Machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople use this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping arms across light manufacturing and job-shop environments.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where chip evacuation is a priority. The plug chamfer style provides a gradual lead-in with several chamfered threads, making it appropriate for both hand tapping and machine tapping in production runs. The 0.5-inch thread length accommodates typical shallow-to-moderate depth through-hole requirements at the M2.5 size range. Right-hand thread cutting is standard for conventional metric fastener applications. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood coolant or cutting paste applied externally is the standard lubrication method for this tool.
Designed as an OEM-style production tap for use with standard tapping chucks, floating tap holders, and rigid tapping spindles that accept the 0.141-inch shank diameter of this tool size.
Machine tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist following established speeds and feeds for HSS taps in the target workpiece material. Ensure the tapping spindle or holder is properly aligned to the drilled pilot hole before engagement to prevent tap breakage at this small diameter. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound externally before and during operation, as this tap does not have coolant-through capability. Replace worn taps promptly — undersized or dull tooling at the M2.5 range is a common cause of tap breakage in production environments.
