The HERTEL K020574AS is a straight flute tap designed for cutting M30x2 metric fine internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this tap features a 4-flute, plug chamfer configuration that provides a moderate lead-in for through-hole and open-ended blind-hole applications. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across several threads, making it a reliable choice for production threading operations. The D5 thread limit ensures predictable tolerance control for metric fine thread fits. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional tapping operations. Machinists and toolroom professionals use this tap in manual or CNC tapping setups where straight flute geometry suits the material and hole condition.
This tap is suited for threading operations requiring M30x2 metric fine thread forms, commonly encountered in industrial machinery, tooling fixtures, hydraulic components, and precision mechanical assemblies. The straight flute design works best in shorter-chipping materials such as cast iron, brass, and some free-machining steels. A 2.5625-inch thread length accommodates standard threading depth requirements in these applications, while the 5.4375-inch overall length provides adequate shank engagement for standard tap holders and tapping heads.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct toolroom substitute for M30x2 metric fine straight flute taps used in standard tap holders, tapping heads, and CNC rigid tapping setups accepting a 1.021-inch shank diameter with a 0.766-inch square drive.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist following standard tapping procedures. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle or tapping head is properly aligned before engaging the tap. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or damage before each use and never force a tap that has stalled, as HSS taps are susceptible to breakage under torsional overload.
