The HERTEL K020520AS is a straight flute tap designed for cutting M27x3 metric coarse internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap features four flutes and a plug chamfer, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations where chip flow can exit freely. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, reducing torque requirements at the start of the cut. With a D5 thread limit, the tap produces threads toward the high end of the tolerance range, accommodating plated or coated fasteners. At 5.125 inches overall length and 2.5 inches of thread length, it fits standard tap holders for M27 applications.
This tap is intended for use in machine-tapping operations on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines, as well as hand-tapping applications where an M27x3 metric coarse thread is required. Typical applications include heavy fabrication, tooling and fixture work, and maintenance and repair operations on metric-threaded assemblies. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional clockwise cutting. Coolant-through capability is not available on this model, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied directly to the workpiece.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use straight flute tap for M27x3 metric coarse tapping applications in standard tap holders and drive equipment accepting the corresponding shank and square dimensions.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists and tooling technicians using standard tap holders, tapping chucks, or drive wrenches sized to the 0.672-inch square drive. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole before beginning the threading operation. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. For machine tapping, verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the material and tap diameter before engaging the cut.
