The HERTEL K020322AS is a straight flute tap designed for cutting Metric Fine internal threads in bottoming applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it produces clean M14 x 1.25 threads in through-holes and blind holes where full thread depth is required close to the bottom. The bottoming chamfer configuration allows threading to within a few pitches of the bottom of a blind hole. At 3-19/32 inches overall length, this tap fits standard tap handles and CNC tapping heads used in precision machining environments. Thread limit is D6, suited for standard tolerance fits in metalworking applications. Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This tap is appropriate for threading M14 x 1.25 Metric Fine holes in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials where close-pitch threads are required. The straight flute design works well in through-hole and short blind-hole applications where chips can be cleared from the cut. It is commonly used in automotive, aerospace, and general precision machining where Metric Fine thread specifications are called out on drawings. The right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional tapping operations. Coolant-through capability is not included in this design.
Designed as a standard straight flute tap for use in tap handles, tapping attachments, and CNC rigid tapping setups configured for M14 x 1.25 Metric Fine threads.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist using proper cutting fluid to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned before cutting to avoid tap breakage. For blind holes, measure available thread depth carefully before selecting a bottoming tap to confirm clearance. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines when operating tapping equipment.
