The HERTEL K015971AS25 is a 1/8-27 NPTF extension pipe tap designed for cutting tapered pipe threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) finish, it provides improved wear resistance and extended tool life in production and maintenance tapping applications. The 5-flute interrupted profile design reduces cutting friction and chip packing, making it well suited for through-hole pipe thread work. With an overall length (OAL) of 6 inches and a shank diameter of 0.4375 inches, this tap is sized for extended-reach applications where a standard-length tap cannot access the workpiece.
This tap is used in plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC, and industrial maintenance applications that require cutting NPTF-compliant tapered pipe threads. The NPTF thread form produces a mechanically pressure-tight seal without requiring a sealant, making it appropriate for hydraulic, pneumatic, and fluid-handling systems. The extension length is particularly useful when tapping blind or recessed ports on manifolds, valve bodies, fittings, and similar components. It is typically run on a drill press, CNC machining center, or tapping machine by machinists, pipefitters, or maintenance technicians.
Designed as an OEM-style cutting tool replacement for 1/8-27 NPTF tapping operations in production machining, pipefitting, and maintenance environments. Shank diameter of 0.4375 inches is compatible with standard tapping chucks and straight-shank tool holders sized for that diameter.
Always use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat buildup and extend tap life. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole before beginning the threading operation. Power down or de-energize any machine tool before changing or inspecting taps. Follow applicable OSHA and shop-floor safety procedures when operating drill presses or CNC equipment.
