The HERTEL K012534AS is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for cutting 9/16-12 UNC internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap features a 52-degree helix angle and three right-hand flutes that efficiently evacuate chips upward through the flute channel — a critical advantage when tapping blind holes. At 3-19/32 inches overall length, it fits standard tap wrenches and CNC tapping heads. The H3 thread limit provides a controlled tolerance class suitable for most standard UNC fastener fits. No coolant-through feature; flood or brush-applied cutting fluid is standard practice for this tap style.
This tap is suited for production threading and maintenance repair operations in blind-hole applications where a bottoming chamfer is required to thread close to the bottom of a drilled hole. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread configuration is the standard orientation for general threading work. Typical applications include threading steel, cast iron, and aluminum components in manufacturing, fabrication, and field repair environments. The 52-degree helix angle makes it particularly effective in softer materials where chip flow is a concern.
Designed as a direct-use tap for 9/16-12 UNC threaded holes in blind-hole applications requiring a bottoming chamfer. Fits standard 9/16-inch square-drive tap wrenches and CNC tapping chucks sized for this shank.
This tap should be installed and operated by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with threading operations. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and ensure the drilled pilot hole meets the correct tap drill diameter for 9/16-12 UNC threads. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid continuously during the tapping cycle to extend tap life and improve thread finish. When used on a manual tap wrench, back off periodically to break chips; when used in a CNC or power tapping application, confirm the machine spindle is programmed for synchronized tapping to avoid tap breakage.
