The HERTEL K011059AS is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF threads in through-hole applications. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish, this plug-chamfer tap pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, keeping the flutes clear during production tapping. The 2-flute geometry and H6 thread limit make it suitable for tapping softer ferrous and non-ferrous materials where close thread tolerances are required. At 0.12 pounds, it is a compact, single-use hand or machine tap appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping arms. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This tap is used in through-hole threading operations where chip evacuation toward the front of the hole is an advantage. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — allows the tap to start easily in a pre-drilled hole while still generating the forward chip-pushing action characteristic of spiral point design. It is well-suited for production environments threading steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials in the 10-32 UNF thread form. The 7/8 inch thread length accommodates standard material thicknesses encountered in light fabrication, panel work, and machine assembly.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute spiral point tap for 10-32 UNF through-hole tapping operations using standard tap holders and tapping arms that accept this tool shank size.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping arm, CNC rigid tapper, or hand tap wrench. Always drill the correct tap drill size for a 10-32 UNF thread before tapping to avoid tap breakage. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and back the tap out periodically if tapping by hand to break chips. Verify spindle direction and feed rate when using machine tapping to avoid over-torquing the tap.
