The HERTEL K011056AS is a straight flute hand tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in a range of workpiece materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap offers solid wear resistance for general-purpose threading operations. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes it suitable for through-holes and deeper blind holes where a starting tap has already been used. With 4 flutes and an H4 thread limit, it holds close tolerances appropriate for UNF fastener fits. Overall length is 2.375 inches, with a thread length of 0.875 inches and a shank diameter of 0.1940 inches. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance threading in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar machinable materials where a 10-32 UNF thread form is required. Right-hand cutting, it works in standard tap wrenches, T-handle wrenches, and machine tap holders configured for right-hand rotation. Common applications include threaded insert work, fixture building, and machine repair where fine-thread fastener holes are needed. The straight flute geometry works best in materials that produce short, breaking chips rather than long, stringy ones.
Designed as a standard replacement or add-on tap for any setup requiring 10-32 UNF internal threads; fits standard tap wrench square-drive holders sized for the 0.1940-inch shank diameter.
Secure the workpiece fully before tapping to prevent movement under cutting load. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Reverse the tap periodically during hand tapping to break chips and reduce the risk of tap breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use — a damaged cutting edge on a small-diameter tap can break in the hole and make extraction difficult.
