The HERTEL K011013AS is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. It is sized for 4-40 UNC threads and features a plug chamfer style, which provides gradual thread lead-in suited for general production tapping. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish, this tap offers reliable wear resistance for use in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting flutes, reducing chip packing in through-hole work. It carries an H6 thread limit for consistent fit and dimensional accuracy.
This tap is used in machine shop, maintenance, and fabrication environments where 4-40 UNC through-hole threading is required. With 2 flutes and a 9/16 inch thread length, it is suited for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and tapping machines handling small-diameter fastener threads. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional 4-40 UNC applications. The plug chamfer makes it appropriate for both production runs and individual repair tapping operations.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with small-diameter tapping operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and properly aligned before beginning the tapping cycle. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to prolong tap life and improve thread quality. Do not reverse tap direction without confirming the machine setup supports it, as breakage risk is elevated in small-diameter taps.
