The HERTEL K010461AS is a metric bottoming thread forming tap designed for creating internal threads in blind holes without cutting chips. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap uses a cold-forming process that displaces material rather than removing it, resulting in stronger thread forms with improved surface finish. The M10x1.5 thread size and D10 thread limit make it suitable for precision threading applications where tolerance control is critical. It measures 2.9375 inches overall in length with a 1.25-inch thread length, and is sized for right-hand thread production in a range of metalworking and mechanical assembly applications.
This tap is used in blind hole threading operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including mild steel, aluminum, and copper alloys. The bottoming chamfer with 1 to 2 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes, making it well suited for tight-tolerance machined components. Typical users include machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working on mechanical assemblies that require metric fastener threads. It is commonly used in CNC tapping centers, drill presses, and manual tapping setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for M10x1.5 metric blind hole threading operations in machining and mechanical maintenance environments.
Thread forming taps require a specific tap drill size larger than those used for cut taps — always consult a thread forming drill chart for the correct pre-drill diameter before use. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface. Power down any machine tool and follow standard lockout procedures before installing or removing tooling.
