The HERTEL K010368AS85 is a thread forming tap designed for creating 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in through-hole applications without cutting. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This plug chamfer tap is manufactured from high-speed steel with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating that increases surface hardness and wear resistance. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a thread length of 1 inch, it is suited for production and maintenance threading operations.
