The HERTEL K010349AS25 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for right-hand internal threads in the 10-24 UNC size. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips — a key advantage in blind hole applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN) for improved wear resistance and tool life, this tap carries an H4 thread limit for close-tolerance threading work. The overall length is 2.375 inches with a thread length of 0.875 inches and a shank diameter of 0.194 inches. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this tap in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and tapping fixtures.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in ductile materials where chipless thread forming is preferred over conventional cutting. The bottoming chamfer — with 1 to 2 chamfered threads — allows the tap to reach the bottom of a blind hole and produce full threads as close to the hole base as possible. Typical applications include threaded fastener holes in aluminum, mild steel, and other machinable metals in production machining, maintenance, and toolroom environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use thread forming tap for 10-24 UNC blind hole threading applications in compatible drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand tapping fixtures that accept a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Thread forming taps require a larger pilot hole diameter than cutting taps — consult a thread forming drill chart for the correct forming drill size for 10-24 UNC before drilling. Secure the workpiece fully and ensure the tapping fixture or machine spindle is properly aligned to avoid tap breakage. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material. Inspect the tap for wear or damage before each use; replace when thread quality degrades.
