The HERTEL K010341AS85 is a bottoming-chamfer thread forming tap designed for 8-32 UNC threads with a 2B class of fit. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut chips, producing stronger threads with a burnished finish in ductile metals. Manufactured from high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, this tap offers improved hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The H3 thread limit maintains consistent tolerance control across production runs. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a 0.75-inch thread length, making it suited for shallow-to-moderate blind hole applications.

This tap is used in blind hole threading operations where chip evacuation is a concern and the workpiece material is ductile enough for cold-forming — typically aluminum, brass, copper, mild steel, and similar materials. The bottoming chamfer, with 1-2 thread lead, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole.
