The HERTEL K008500AS is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in a variety of materials encountered in production and maintenance machining environments. Built from high speed steel, this tap features a 52-degree helix angle that efficiently evacuates chips up and out of the flute during the tapping cycle. The plug chamfer allows the tap to start easily in through holes or deeper blind holes. Rated to thread limit H3, it holds tolerance for UNF applications requiring consistent, repeatable thread quality. This tap is suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, and toolroom professionals working with drill presses, CNC machining centers, or manual tapping heads.
The K008500AS cuts a 7/16-20 UNF right-hand thread using a right-hand spiral flute geometry. The fast flute style and 52-degree helix angle make it well suited for softer and gummy materials such as aluminum, copper, and mild steel, where chip packing in blind holes is a common problem. At 3 flutes and an overall length of approximately 3-5/32 inches, this tap fits standard tap holders and adapters used in both manual and machine tapping operations. It does not include coolant-through capability, so external cutting fluid application is recommended for best tool life.
Designed for use in standard tap holders and floating-head tapping attachments accepting taps in the 7/16-inch thread size range. Suitable for machine tapping and hand tapping applications requiring a 7/16-20 UNF thread form.
This tap is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a standard tap holder, tapping head, or manual tap wrench. Always secure the workpiece firmly and align the tap perpendicular to the hole to avoid tap breakage or thread distortion. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material before and during the tapping operation. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged tap can destroy the workpiece thread and is a safety hazard.
