The HERTEL K008253AS is a 10-32 UNF bottoming hand tap designed for cutting fully formed threads to the bottom of blind holes. Ground from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this 2-flute straight flute tap delivers clean thread profiles in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The bottoming chamfer provides just 1-2 lead threads, allowing threading as close to the base of a hole as possible. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a 0.875-inch thread length and a shank diameter of 0.194 inches. It is suited for hand tapping operations on the bench or in a drill press fixture.
This tap is used in maintenance, repair, and fabrication work where 10-32 UNF threads are required in blind hole applications. The bottoming style is typically the final tap used in a three-tap sequence — after a taper and plug tap have started the thread — to achieve full thread depth. Common applications include instrument panels, electrical enclosures, small machine components, and light structural assemblies where fine-thread fasteners are specified.
Designed as a standard 10-32 UNF bottoming hand tap compatible with conventional tap wrenches and tap holders accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Hand taps should be installed and turned using a properly sized tap wrench to maintain alignment and avoid breakage. Secure the workpiece before tapping, apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material, and back the tap off periodically to break chips. Follow standard machining and shop-safety practices; never force a tap in a blind hole without confirming chip clearance.
