The HERTEL K008240AS is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to the 10-24 UNC standard. Made from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable performance in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where through-hole tapping is the primary application. It features four flutes and an H7 thread limit, which means the finished thread is cut slightly oversize by 0.0030 inches to accommodate plating or provide a controlled fit. With an overall length of 2.375 inches and a thread length of 0.875 inches, it fits standard tap wrenches and machine setups used in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and light manufacturing where 10-24 UNC threaded holes are required in through-hole configurations. The plug chamfer style — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes it a general-purpose choice for starting a thread in a through hole or continuing after a bottoming tap in a blind hole. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics commonly reach for this tap when threading steel, aluminum, brass, and similar workpiece materials.
Designed as a standard straight flute plug tap for use in any tap wrench, T-handle, or machine tapping setup that accepts a 0.194-inch shank diameter with a 0.152-inch square drive.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and maintenance mechanics working with hand tap wrenches or tapping heads on drill presses and milling machines. Always secure the workpiece and align the tap perpendicular to the drilled hole before applying cutting pressure. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use — a damaged tap can seize in the hole and cause workpiece or tooling damage.
