The HERTEL K008231AS is a straight flute tap designed to cut internal threads in a 10-24 UNC thread form. It is built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish and features a plug chamfer for general-purpose through-hole and blind-hole threading applications. The 2-flute straight flute geometry provides adequate chip clearance in softer materials and delivers consistent thread quality. With an overall length of 2.375 inches and an H2 thread limit, this tap holds close tolerances for standard fit thread classes. It is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and production operators working on light to medium threading tasks in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments.
This tap is suited for threading operations in materials where straight flute taps perform reliably, including aluminum, brass, free-machining steel, and plastics. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in of 3 to 5 threads, making it appropriate for both through-holes and sufficiently deep blind holes. Right-hand thread direction aligns with standard 10-24 UNC fastener applications commonly found in machine components, electrical enclosures, and light structural assemblies. It is well matched for use in hand tapping, drill press tapping, and CNC tapping operations where coolant-through capability is not required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tap for any application requiring a 10-24 UNC straight flute plug tap in high-speed steel with an H2 thread limit.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with threading procedures. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole before beginning the threading operation. Appropriate cutting fluid or tapping lubricant should be applied to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Follow standard shop safety practices including eye protection and proper machine guarding when tapping under power.
