The HERTEL K008220AS is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this plug-chamfer tap drives chips forward ahead of the cut, making it well suited for production tapping in materials such as aluminum, mild steel, and similar workpiece metals. The 8-36 UNF thread form produces fine-pitch threads in a Number 8 diameter, and the H2 thread limit holds tight tolerances for reliable fit. Two flutes provide chip clearance while keeping the tool cross-section strong at this small diameter. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional threaded fastener applications.
This tap is appropriate for job shop, maintenance, and production environments where 8-36 UNF threaded holes are required. The plug chamfer, with its moderate lead-in, is the most common general-purpose configuration and works in both machine tapping and carefully controlled hand tapping setups. The 2B and 3B class-of-fit range covers the majority of standard UNF fastener assemblies used in light mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users of this tool.
Designed as a standard replacement or stock tap for applications requiring 8-36 UNF internal threads with a 2B or 3B class of fit in through-hole workpieces.
Secure the tap in a properly sized tap holder or tapping head before use; avoid using worn or oversized holders that allow runout at this small diameter. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and maintain consistent axial alignment to prevent tap breakage. For machine tapping, verify spindle speed and feed rate are set for the material and tap diameter before engaging the cut. Always follow applicable shop safety procedures when operating drilling and tapping equipment.
