The HERTEL K008187AS is a straight flute plug tap designed to cut 8-32 UNC internal threads in through-holes and blind holes where chip clearance is not a primary concern. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap suits general-purpose threading operations in a range of materials including mild steel, aluminum, and plastics. It features three flutes, a plug chamfer of 3 to 5 threads for guided entry, and an H2 thread limit for a 3B class of fit, which is the standard tolerance for most commercial fastener applications. Overall length is 2.125 inches and the tap weighs 0.17 pounds.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance threading tasks in light manufacturing, machine shops, and field repair environments. The 8-32 UNC thread size is widely used in instrumentation, electronics enclosures, and light mechanical assemblies. The straight flute design is best applied in softer, shorter-chipping materials where flute clogging is not a concern. It is installed using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC tapping cycle without coolant-through capability.
Designed as a standard 8-32 UNC plug tap for use in any tap wrench, tapping attachment, or CNC tapping spindle accepting straight-shank taps in this size range.
Machinist or tooling technician installation applies. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before tapping and use appropriate tapping fluid for the material being threaded. Back the tap out periodically to clear chips when working in deeper holes. Do not force the tap past resistance, as high-speed steel is susceptible to breakage under torsional overload.
