The HERTEL K008135AS is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this 5-44 UNF tap uses a plug chamfer and two-flute spiral point geometry to push chips ahead of the cutting edge, reducing clogging and improving thread quality at production cutting speeds. The H2 thread limit holds tight tolerances for a 2B class of fit, making it a reliable choice for small-diameter threaded fastener work in metal fabrication, precision machining, and maintenance repair operations.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where chip evacuation forward through the hole is practical. The 5-44 UNF thread form covers fine-pitch applications common in instrument work, electronics assembly, small mechanical assemblies, and aerospace component repair. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional CW rotation on any drill press, tapping head, or CNC machine center.
Designed for use in any standard tapping chuck, tapping head, drill press, or CNC machining center capable of accepting the shank diameter for a 5-44 UNF tap.
A licensed machinist or qualified tool-and-die technician should select the correct tap drill size per UNF thread chart standards before tapping. Use a cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping to prevent deflection or tap breakage on this small-diameter tool. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as small-diameter HSS taps are susceptible to breakage under side load or misalignment.
