The HERTEL K008017AS25 is a spiral point tap designed to cut internal threads in through-hole applications. It uses a plug chamfer to progressively engage the workpiece, pushing chips forward and out of the hole rather than packing them behind the cutting edges. Manufactured from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap resists wear and runs at higher cutting speeds than uncoated HSS alternatives. With a 1-64 UNC thread form, a Class 2B fit tolerance, and an H2 thread limit, it produces threads to standard fastener specifications. Machinists, toolroom techs, and MRO tradespeople rely on this size for small-fastener work in electronics enclosures, instrument panels, and precision assemblies.
This tap is suited to through-hole threading in materials including mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable alloys. The 1-64 UNC thread size is one of the smallest unified coarse pitches in standard use, making it common in miniature fastener applications found in HVAC control boards, electrical enclosures, and precision instrument housings. The right-hand thread direction and 2-flute configuration keep the tap compact and maneuverable in tight spaces. Coolant-through capability is not available on this tap, so conventional flood or cutting-oil application should be used when running in production.
Designed as a direct-use spiral point tap for any application requiring a 1-64 UNC Class 2B internal thread in through-hole workpieces.
This tap is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians using a standard tap handle, tapping fixture, or CNC machining center with a synchronized tapping cycle. Secure the workpiece firmly before starting and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole to prevent thread cross-threading or tap breakage. Apply cutting oil or appropriate tapping fluid before and during the operation to reduce heat and extend tool life. At the 1-64 size, breakage risk is high if the tap is torqued beyond its limits or run dry.
